Due to flooding conditions on the lower Guadalupe River, the Texas Water Safari Board has voted to postpone the race to Saturday, July 11, 2015.
This will be the final postponement. The race will be held on July 11th. If the lower section of the Guadalupe is still in flood stage at that time, the finish line for the 2015 Texas Water Safari will be moved up river, and the race will stop prior to the flooding sections. If the current conditions hold on July 11th, the finish line of the Texas Water Safari will be at the Swinging Bridge checkpoint. This could change as conditions change. The Board reserves the right to make that determination prior to the race or even during the race, depending upon river conditions.
For your planning purposes, the race will not be run on a section of the river that is in flood stage.
The same rules published in our recent FAQ section will apply to this postponement. If you are a race official, please contact Allen Spelce (email allen.spelce@gmail.com or text or call 512-657-9943) to let him know if you can help on this new date or if you have a conflict.
The Board fully understands the complications that arise when the race is postponed. This is only the second time in the Safari’s 53 years that river conditions have required that the race be postponed twice.
This was not an easy decision and we appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
The TWS Board
