Registration for the Junior Texas Water Safari opens on September 1st and closes on September 17th. There is no race day registration (race day changes are allowed). Race Day is September 19th. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. at San Marcos City Park. Race briefing at 8:15 a.m. Race starts at 9 a.m. at San Marcos City Park and ends at Staples. The cut off for reaching Hwy 1979 Martindale Bridge is 12:00 noon.
The Jr. Texas Water Safari is a fast, fun, 16-mile canoe and kayak race down the beautiful San Marcos River from San Marcos City Park to Staples, TX (The first checkpoint of the TWS). The race welcomes everyone from serious competitors to recreational paddlers looking for a challenge, making it one of the most accessible ways to experience the unique competition, camaraderie, and paddling community of the Texas Water Safari.
All rules will follow the TWS rulebook with the following exceptions:
1. The minimum age to race without an adult is 15
2. Required equipment is 1 USCG approved PFD per paddler
3. Ensure your paddles are in alignment with your hull (Aluminum class cannot use double blades)
4. Garmin InReach Tracking device is not required and Team Captains are not required
Reminders:
– Please ensure your boat number is 4″ tall and firmly affixed to your boat (port side)
– All classes follow the TWS rulebook
– Race official contact information will be shared at check-in. Please enter into your phone or take a photo.
– Parking at City Park is $15 for non-residents without a permit (University parking is also restricted, but street parking is open). Organize shuttles ahead of time to save money.
